Why you should invest in an
ECS Network Management System

Communication Network Technology change has been fast paced.

.You think you understand the situation, but what you don't understand is that the situation just changed.

The convergence of Information and Communications is dramatically changing and today's change involves speed.

Situation:
You're in Paris, and you decide to use your credit card. Getting credit approved involves a 46,000-mile journey over phones and computers.

Results:
.The job is done in 5 seconds!!

Understanding computers as well as Internet and Intranet capabilities is a prerequisite for participating in the communication network economy, which requires different systems to share data. The message is clear: If you have not jumped on board, you better jump soon. Speed and functionality are growing rapidly and will continue to grow. Computers are here to stay. The next revolution will unleash their full power and value through interconnecting or the integration of different communication network systems.

In order to better serve our customers, ECS Controls continues to develop solutions toward expanding our existing system integration experience. Our first challenge is to create innovative solutions using a common communication network system that is fast enough to provide our customers with the ultimate in responsive building services. Our second challenge is seamlessly integrate our existing network systems with network systems of other industries.

We understand that our customers want the option of always being connected to a common communication network system. They want access to information from any location and at anytime. We understand a common interface for all building functions reduces learning time, system development time and installation costs.

Most industries today are moving toward open systems or communication standards. The options available with open systems require more knowledge of the variety of products available and that communication standards are talking the same language or protocol in terms of requirements and expectations. A protocol is a set of rules for communicating that is known by both ends of the communications network system. There are 7 layers of protocol. The lower levels of protocol are refereed to as Local Area Network (LAN) communication and the upper levels of protocol are referred to as Wide Area Network (WAN) communication.

Many vendors have developed software for the different layers and one of them, over time, will find itself the standard. LAN communications are sharing in the momentum of the standard protocol used by the Ethernet and Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).

ECS Controls has adopted TCP/IP as its standard for all of our communication network systems. Both our Energy Management Systems and our Security Management Systems combine this industry standard technology. Using TCP/IP our host workstations can now communicate across the Internet and existing commercial Ethernet LAN.

The evolution of adding value to communication network systems has begun. We are constantly expanding our knowledge of gateway and router technology, which offer options and will be required for communication with the Internet and many other network systems. It seems all products being developed today have a processor chip in them and it won't be long before all of our building management and automation systems will be intelligent. This networked intelligence is driving our world to continually interconnect everything to everything else. The potential value of having these different communication network systems share intelligence through gateways and routers is so vast that the world has just begun to grasp it.

What does all this mean?

To our customers, a common communication network system will give them more options in solving their unique needs.

To ECS Controls, a common communication network system means we must stay on the cutting edge of technology to understand protocols, design, installation and service of multi-vendor network systems.

Yes, ECS is in the communication business. We may not sell telephones but we will continue to innovate and create new solutions and to embrace new communication network technologies developed by others, which will allow us to deliver value to our customers.
